About Me:

The new longer-term Avatar: The Way of Water opening weekend box office projections have the sequel almost doubling James Cameron's first movie. The 2009 sci-fi movie broke all sorts of records at the box office on its path to becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time. The phenomenal box office success of Avatar has brought much attention to the amount Avatar 2 will make. While no one can predict Avatar 2 to surpass the previous film's $2.9 billion worldwide haul and the film's massive budget and the fact that Disney is investing in the future of the franchise means that there is some pressure for Avatar: The Way of Water to perform.

According to Avatar: The Way Of Water Review -range tracking offered by Box Office Pro, Avatar: The Way of Water is now expected to bring in more than $135 million during its opening weekend in the US. The Avatar film's original box office debut included a $77M opening in the US, 13 years ago, in December. Therefore, these new projections call for Avatar 2's opening weekend box office to be nearly twice the original. These projections even suggest that the sequel will make $475M domestically by the conclusion of its theatrical run this is lower than earlier reports and about half of what Avatar produced domestically.

A strong first weekend opening for Avatar: The Way of Water is a good beginning for the sequel's success at the box office. The reported $135M opening would mean the follow-up will make the same amount in just one weekend as took James Cameron's first movie a full week to earn. But, Avatar 2's box office isn't going to be able to find a road to surpass the original. The reason Avatar had such a remarkable box office success is the film's incredible word-of-mouth and repeated watchings that kept the movie relevant and on the screens for 234 days. That is unheard of nowadays even for the largest films. As a reference, Top Gun: Maverick reached 161 days this year.

There is little belief of the possibility that Avatar: The Way of Water will be able to surpass the original film, however, it doesn't have to become the most-grossing production ever in order to be a hit. The excitement for the sequel has completely squelched the notion that Avatar didn't leave a lasting impression on general audiences. Even even if the sequel's gross is only half that of the first movie but it still makes $1.3 billion and that would make Avatar 2's billion-dollar box office a massive success. It is enough to be the second highest-grossing movie of 2022.

There is an element of doubt about Avatar 2's box office to be profitable enough for James Cameron to continue his sequel ideas alive. He's contracted to create three sequels which will include Avatar 3 already completely filmed. A few scenes are also being worked to make Avatar 4. However, the director has admitted that If the sequel's box office falls short and the audience is not keen, Avatar 3 could be the last movie in the franchise. In this way, Avatar: The Way of Water's box office will play a major impact on what happens in the future for James Cameron's films.
